چکیده

This paper describes an analytical and experimental investigation of the property of modal disparity in a vibrating structure. For a given structure, the concept of modal disparity describes the structure’s ability to generate significant changes in the mode shapes by some type of on-the-fly structural modification. In the present study we consider a vibrating beam that experiences a controlled stiffness change, induced by the activation and deactivation of an electromagnetic brake that causes a spatially localized change in the bending stiffness. Using a finite element model and an experimental apparatus it is shown that significant amounts of energy can be shifted back and forth between sets of modes in a systematic and predictable manner. This confirmation of modal disparity for a specific structural system provides evidence that this concept is feasible, and thereby opens the door for a number of potential applications in passive and active control of vibrating structures. r 2007 Elsevier Ltd. Vibration of cracked plate using differential quadrature method and experimental modal analysis

In this study, the vibration of cracked plates is investigated using the differential quadrature method and experimental modal analysis. The crack, which is assumed to be open, is modeled by the extended rotational spring. With its finite length, the crack divides the plate into six segments. Then, the differential quadrature is applied to the governing differential equations of motion and the ...

A First-Order Extension of Modal μ- calculus

Modal μ-calculus is a modal logic with fixed-point operators and well-known in mathematics and computer scince. For example, many verification properties of a system are expressed by formulas of modal μcalculus in computer science. However some verification properties of a system can not be expressed by a formula of modal μ-calculus as we will show later, and quantifiers of first-order logic ar...

Adaptive Multi - Modal Person Verification System

This paper describes an adaptive multi-modal person verification system based on speech and face images. The system adapts to noise present in the speech signal by modifying the parameters of the fusion module. Linear and Support Vector Machine (SVM) based techniques of fusing the similarity measures from speech and face modes are investigated. Experimental results obtained on the Digit Databas...

Optimizing Disparity Candidates Space in Dense Stereo Matching

In this paper, a new approach for optimizing disparity candidates space is proposed for the solution of dense stereo matching problem. The main objectives of this approachare the reduction of average number of disparity candidates per pixel with low computational cost and high assurance of retaining the correct answer. These can be realized due to the effective use of multiple radial windows, i...
